Artesano Vintners

Mike Shepherd is originally from Waihi, New Zealand, and he's been living and making wine in Catalonia, Spain since 2008. His winemaking journey began in 2009 in Martinborough, NZ, working with Lance Redgewell at Cambridge Road Winery, where he met Alex Craighead (Kindeli Wines) – a friend and co-founder of Artesano Vintners.
He worked vintages across Spain (Toro, Bierzo, Calatayud, Priorat, Montsant), New Zealand, and in France (Roussillon). In 2015, Alex and Mike founded Artesano Vintners España. From just 1,100 bottles in our first year, we now produce over 20,000 bottles annually. He started making wine in La Boella, Reus, and then in 2019, moved to El Viver de Celleristes (Winemaker's "Nursery" https://concactiva.cat/?page_id=426) a local government initiative to help small winemakers and viticultors get a headstart in their projects.
